Maimuna (she/her) is a Licensed Graduate Marriage and Family Therapist (LGMFT) who is passionate about representation and cultural humility in the mental health field. She believes healthy relationships and mental health are essential for a healthy life.
Maimuna is a Bangladeshi-American woman who fluently speaks Bangla. She was inspired to enter the mental health field after seeing a need in her cultural and religious community.
Maimuna specializes in helping individuals and families with anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, and life transitions. She focuses on utilizing strengths and lived experience to help clients reach their goals.
Maimuna enjoys working with kids as young as 6, teens, individual adults, couples, and families. She welcomes individuals and families of all identities and experiences into the therapy space. As a Muslim and South Asian woman, she also seeks to serve the Muslim and larger South Asian community.
Maimuna aims to help build resilience, implement tools that work for you and your way of life, and to help you explore and live in your most authentic self.
Her therapeutic style is collaborative, compassionate, and rooted in the belief that people are the experts in their own lives. Drawing from narrative and solution-focused models, Maimuna supports clients in uncovering their strengths, navigating life’s transitions, and creating meaningful change. She is especially attuned to the ways culture, identity, and family systems shape each person’s story and strives to create an inclusive, nonjudgmental space where all parts of a person are welcome.
Maimuna is trained Theraplay (Level 1) and in Gottman Couples Therapy (Levels 1 and 2).
Born and raised in Maryland, Maimuna received her B.S. in Family Science from the University of Maryland before attending San Diego State University, where she completed her M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy. Although she misses the beach, she is happy to be back in her home state, where she enjoys watching sports, baking, and exploring local coffee shops.
